Since 2005, Congress has provided a tax deduction to firms that have upgraded their plant and equipment following guidelines for improving energy efficiency. Those incentives were extended through December 31, 2016.
Congress may continue to extend these incentives into the future, but it is really anybody’s guess if that will happen.
