What is considered a commercial generator?

A commercial generator is an energy technology that is designed to deliver backup/standby/emergency and primary power systems. These can be powered by diesel or natural gas. It is important to thoroughly understand generator system capability, functionality, reliability and site specific load requirements when considering the energy technology.

How long can a commercial generator run?

Diesel Generators – typical run time at full tank and full load is 24-72 hours. Many variables need to be considered when selecting a diesel standby generator including fuel storage – use a fuel tank or tanks, and the availability to store on-site or not. Natural Gas – these do not require fuel storage on-site since the fuel line is connected to the natural gas utility grid. This type of generator is in an “always-on connection to fuel source” mode and eliminates the challenge of fuel storage. This option will provide added reliability, as long as the natural gas infrastructure and its supply system is not interrupted.
