1993

Eco Engineering was founded in 1993 as a specialized provider of energy efficient lighting services for local commercial and industrial facilities in the greater Cincinnati area. Most projects completed in the early years were single building projects involving the retrofitting of old lighting systems to newer, energy-saving lighting technologies. However, one common value was a focus on doing the job right the first time. Eco Engineering evolved to add engineering and design skills to the actual implementation of lighting upgrades.

1998

Tom Kirkpatrick, a former P&G executive, took control of the Company in 1998 and remains the CEO today. Tom built professional management team with both Fortune 1000 and Energy Services Company (ESCO) experience. The team expanded skill sets attracting new lighting specialists, engineers, and field managers. Eco’s services now included dictating where the lamps and fixtures were placed, which ballasts were used, how temperature and sensing devices could impact lighting performance and which brand of lighting equipment was best. These changes increased the energy savings impact for customers.

image

2005

Following the ownership change, Eco Engineering becomes increasingly sophisticated at complex financial modeling to help customers understand the payback criteria associated with a lighting upgrade. Eco foucsed primarily on the C&I business with an average project size of $100,000 and the average annual growth exceeded +25% per year. As Eco Engineering expanded beyond the Tri State area around Cincinnati, Eco continued to service C&I including warehouses, hotels, office complexes, retail stores, and malls and then expanded into Government, hospital, and school/university facilities. Ultimately, customers demanded coast to coast service from Eco Engineering.

2010

Eco Engineering becomes a major electrical contractor on the national scene known for providing a comprehensive service for energy efficient lighting across all regions of the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean. Customers included a variety of Fortune 1000 companies from many sectors, an expanded group of ESCO clients who relied on Eco Engineering’s expertise for the lighting portions of large energy savings projects in the governmental and institutional markets, resulting in a meaningful reduction in kWh usage among American businesses.

image

2016

Eco Engineering evolved into a new type of company called a Design and Build Engineering (DBE) firm. The company continued to add skill sets focused on lighting controls and promising but rapidly changing LED technology. In early 2015, Eco Engineering acquired Lighting Optimizers of Tipp City, OH and later in 2015 Eco Engineering acquired employees of Sun Industries in Los Angeles, CA allowing expanded service the West Coast ESCO market. Eco Engineering expanded its national footprint even more through an Asset Purchase Agreement with Eco-Shift Power (ECOP) of Cambridge, Ontario. With the expansion, Eco Engineering absorbs energy efficient lighting contracts in the western region of the US and Mexico and solidified its capabilities to deliver a consistent project design and implementation model across the entire North American market.

2019

Eco Engineering acquires InVision Technologies, Inc. in Dallas, TX. This acquisition provided capabilities in the theater segment plus a materials Distribution business. These acquisitions gave Eco Engineering increased capacity and specialized skills to offer expanded lighting upgrade services to its ESCO customers who focus on K-12, higher-education and government facilities and movie theatres.

2020

Eco Engineering officially expands as an EPC to include Sustainable Energy Systems and Resiliency services and become an integrated energy service solutions partner to customers needing one point of contact to manage evolving sustainability goals. In addition to our core service of energy efficient lighting upgrades, Eco can now offer Engineer, Procurement and Construction services to the sustainable energy market.

2023

Over the past three decades, Eco Engineering’s ongoing journey to provide integrated energy services that align with the evolving energy needs of their customers, has earned them the role as a trusted partner to those seeking comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction services for energy projects. By combining their extensive experience in commercial, nationwide lighting retrofits with their growing expertise as an EPC in sustainable energy systems and resiliency, the company aims to continue delivering comprehensive and integrated energy solutions that empower their clients to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
